Hamsters as weapons
throughout history:
the middle ages

Early feudal society was short and brutal, all the more so for the constant battles and border wars that were forever flaring between neighbors. Siege technology took an early, er, leap with the invention of the catapult.

Here we see the origins of the term "rain" of terror (though who's more terrified, the targets or the projectiles, is hard to say), and this foreshadows the later use of hamsters in psychological warfare.
